Overwhelmed part Three

Making changes to a habit is hard. We are so used to being at the beck and call of those around us, but we are useless to those we want to help if we can not keep our self happy and healthy.

We have heard over and over again that with the introduction of the smartphone and having access to our work life on personal time does not let have that break or having home offices.

This where we need to take control, we have allowed these helpful tools to manage our time. If you use any calendar feature, book a time of day maybe it is one evening a week that you are home early enough to spend time doing what you need to, do to rejuvenate. Being available to spend time with your spouse, putting your kids to bed or going to a class.

If your weekends are spent catching up with those house hold errands, why not hire someone like a concierge/personal assistant to look after those errands during the week, so that your weekends can be spent having a late breakfast or doing nothing but reading Calvin and Hobbs.

Give your self permission to play!

Overwhelmed Part Two

Is your health suffering because of being overwhelmed. Lack of sleep, facial ticks, hair loss, ulcers, skin conditions, panic attacks, high cholesterol, all or any of the above or ones not mentioned.

Play can be as simple as reading something you enjoy, Calvin and Hobbs for 15 min, letting the warm sun melt your stress, playing a musical instrument. To busy to have pets, visit a local pet shelter and volunteer.

Each of us are programmed at a early age that for women we need to be available to everyone and we work on our selfs if there is time. For men we need to provide for our family, so being available to our boss or clients.

Who do you know in your life that is happy? What are they doing differently then you? Are they taking time for themselves, are they running, or some other outdoor activity or does there family know that at this time of the week it is Mommy’s or Daddy’s time.

Why aren’t you doing this? Do you feel guilty taking time for yourself? Why? Don’t you feel better when you have a chance to rejuvenate and those around your are more relaxed when you get the chance to recharge.

Surprise someone special

Overwhelmed Part One

Follow your bliss. Just do it. Do what you love, and the money will follow. Lean in. Is this your motto.

Have we forgotten one – Play!

There’s evidence that this activity that many of us associate with childhood can energize lives that are overwhelmed in  the demands of everyday.

According to a meticulously researched new book by Washington Post columnist Brigid Schulte, Overwhelmed: Work, Love and Play When No One Has the Time.

It’s a paradox that even in the busiest of lives adding an activity can ease one’s load by generating emotional satisfaction. Taking time to play is a leap of faith when we compete over who’s busiest as a sign of status. Do you brag on how little vacation time you take?

Playing might seem an odd idea for an adult. But this isn’t pulling out the Monopoly board for a family game. It’s about creating a quality of life that many of us thought was long gone because of work and family commitments. Instead, it’s doing a little more of what makes your “heart sing,” to borrow a phrase from Schulte.
